Two new Raptors

After trading their draft picks away as far back as 1999 the ‘07 draft left the Toronto Raptors with no picks but they did pick up small forward Giorgos Printezis last week from San Antonio for a second round draft pick in ‘08.
On Sunday as the free agent market opened up the Raptors signed the winner of the 3 point shooting contest in the NBA All-Star game Jason Kapono of the Miami Heat to a 4 year contract.

Going into next season the Raptors will probably have some of the higher 3-point averages in the league with Andrea Bargnani and the acquisition of Kapono along with Parker and Garbajosa, the four of them on the same lineup will be a very powerful team.
Now that the Raps know what it takes to get to the championships and what it will take to get past the first round I think your going to see a new Raptors team next season, even though there will only be a few new faces and one new face on the coaching bench. Sam Mitchell knows what type of team he has and I’m sure he knows what lines to put together to make the most out of what he has, with Jose Calderon staying in Toronto I think if he puts players like Calderon and Ford together and Kapono and Bargnani together Mitchell will have a much tighter team. Rather than have your top players in one line and the rest filling out the second tier it would be better to look at the lines as individual playes where you put your three pointers along with your best defenders together right at the start of the third quarter when the Raps seem to hit a snag and get behind by 10 or more point in a short amount of time.
So even though they didn’t get any picks this year Bryan Colangelo is working the free agent market pretty well with the salary cap that he has to work under.
