With two wins and two losses last week the Raptors have fallen to third place in the Easter Conference so the three days off this week for them seems very welcomed.
The loss to the Bucks followed the next night by a loss to the Magic was like watching the Raptors of yesteryear when they lacked the on court aggression they have clearly shown they have this year.
Tuesdays 112-85 loss against the Milwaukee Buck’s was going to be a hard game no matter what with former assistant coach Jim Todd leading the Bucks, Sam Mitchell said “he had a pretty good handle on what the Raptors do.” Down 37-23 after the first quarter the Raptors were held to only 41.6 per cent shooting for the game and the second half didn’t go much better as they were down by 36 points in the fourth. It was also a great night for the Bucks Desmond Mason who shot 10/10 while the team shot an impressive 60.3% for the game. Perhaps it was the huge win against the Nets in the Raptors previous outting but this game was not an ’07-08 style game.
When the Raptors faced the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night they managed to tied up the score but missed to many shots and fell 105-96 at the final buzzer. The Raptors only shot for 38.2% during the whole game. CB4 was able to add 26 points to the final score and seems to be getting over his early season slump. Andrea Bargnani’s three pointer in the later fourth helped get Toronto fans excited as they got the closest to winning, but Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson both landed their three pointers and snagged the final victory.
Toronto’s 105-103 win over Philadelphia and their 101-71 win against Chicago were definitely needed to help boost the team.
When the Raptors started their second game of the season against the 76ers they had lost their last three games straight and from the get go it was appartent the Sam Mitchell was going to try some different lineups. CB4 maganged to score 24 points while Anthony Parker seems to have gotten back into the season with 22 points and Jamario Moon got 8 points in his longest NBA game to date. Overall the Raptors shot 46% on the night but T.J. Ford’s scoring in the last seconds of the fourth helped take them to the victory.
Finally we get to the big game last week, Toronto versus Chicago. 101-71 was the final score and I wonder how much “win” was in the Bulls even during the third quarter. By the fourth quarter most of the 22,467 Bulls fans had left to catch the train home. By half time Toronto had a very healthy 52-31 lead with Delfino getting 16 points and Bargnani scoring 14 points and a 14 point outing for CB4 it was no surprise. The Bulls were only able to get a 33.3% shooting average, while Toronto shot 54.7% for the night. It was a good night for the Bulls’ Nocioni who managed to get 20 points and 1 assist.
Next up for the Toronto Raptors is Utah on Wednesday with a 7pm start followed by Indiana Friday with 7pm start as well.
